Best Practices in Volunteer Management

This is a two-part workshop. One registration covers attendance at both parts.

Most Jewish organizations rely heavily on the efforts of volunteers. But these organizations also face a number of challenges in dealing with volunteers: recruitment of new volunteers, retaining volunteers, supervision of volunteers, and getting volunteers to move up in responsibility level to eventually become organization leaders. Participants will benefit by learning how to be better managers of volunteers, which will ultimately decrease the amount of arm-twisting they have to do to obtain volunteers for their organization's activities, decrease the conflicts that come with having unhappy volunteers, and help make their organizations' programs more successful

This workshop is led by Kerri Sandberg (see bio below), a professional volunteer management trainer. Part 1 of the workshop will include a handouts, case studies, discussion, and group and partner exercises to teach participants how to be better managers of volunteers. Part 2 of the workshop will be a followup discussion on what participants learned in Part 1, after everyone's had some time to digest and possibly put some of the ideas into practice. Part 2 will also include some additional discussion of best practices for dealing with difficult volunteers.

Part 1 takes place on May 18, 2008 from 9:30 - 2:30 at KTM. Light dairy breakfast and dairy lunch included. Part 2 takes place on August 3, 2008 from 9:30 - 12:00 at KTM, followed by dairy lunch and networking.
