How does a Modern Orthodox Jew relate to the High Holidays? Can we gain a deeper understanding of the Mitzvah of Shofar and the concepts of repentance and forgiveness? What is G-d seeking from us during this exalted time? Explore these questions and others with Rabbi Nehemia Polen as he shares teachings from Rabbi Levi Yitzchak of Berditchev and other Chassidic Masters.
Dr. Nehemia Polen is Professor of Jewish Thought at Boston's Hebrew College. He is the author of several books including The Holy Fire: The Teachings of Rabbi Kalonymus Shapira, the Rebbe of the Warsaw Ghetto and The Rebbe’s Daughter, co-author of Filling Words with Light: Hasidic and Mystical Reflections on Jewish Prayer and contributor to My People’s Prayer Book. He received his Ph.D. from Boston University, where he studied with and served as teaching fellow for Nobel laureate Elie Wiesel.
Dr. Polen has held Fellowships at Harvard University and with the National Endowment for the Humanities and has been a Visiting Scholar at Hebrew University in Jerusalem. He is an ordained rabbi and served a congregation for twenty-three years.
